Google and AOL - GooglePortal
Did Google jump the shark, hit a tipping point or just sell it's soul? One thing is for sure, Google is making its move towards portaldom. "Google, which prides itself on the purity of its search results, agreed to give favored placement to content from AOL throughout its site, something it has never done before." NY Times via SEW and BattelleMore details: "Under the agreement, Google will remain the search engine on the AOL service for five years and Google will give AOL millions of dollars of free advertising on the search engine to promote its network of Web sites. AOL also will get the exclusive right to sell online banner ads for Google. AOL will keep about 20 percent of the proceeds from those ad sales, while Google will get about 80 percent."
"The deal between Google and AOL is a setback for Microsoft, which had been talking with Time Warner since January. Google is the leader in Internet advertising and search, followed by Yahoo and MSN Search, which is a distant third." Washington Post Tags: Google, AOL, Google AOL
Google Music Search - Zeitgeist and Yahoo Buzz Index
From the official Google blog: "Now you can search for a popular artist name, like the Beatles or the Pixies, and often Google will show some information about that artist, like cover art, reviews, and links to stores where you can download the track or buy a CD via a link at the top of your web search results page." Which is pretty logical since so many top search queries are related to music. - Google Zeitgeist: 50 cent, avril lavigne, shakira, christina aguilera, mariah carey
- Yahoo Buzz Index: Savage Garden, Foxy Brown, Nina Simone, Tatyana Ali, Iggy Pop
