Social Media Consultants, Experts & Gurus – Oh My! |
 |
Social media consulting is part of an overall online marketing strategy that involves social media, SEO, email, display, PPC, etc. as appropriate to reach business goals, not just “social media”. Granted, there are changes in social consumer behavior and technology that must be accounted for, but an adaptive online marketing strategy accounts for those changes anyway. Focusing solely on social media or as an independent activity is a disadvantage. |

SEO Considerations in a Connected Consumer World |
 |
The idea of collecting information and making it available to the masses was on the minds of intellectuals/scientists long before it came to fruition into the World Wide Web. For example, in 1945 Vannevar Bush – a prominent scientist and a key person behind the creation of the Atomic Bomb – argued that as humans turned from war, scientific efforts should shift from increasing physical abilities to making all previously collected human knowledge more accessible. |

Response: Is SEO DOA As a Core Marketing Strategy? |
 |
Reuters posted an article yesterday entitled, “Is SEO DOA as a core marketing strategy?” and trust me, I know better than to respond and fuel attention to a writer who is either naive or trying to stir up the bee’s nest with a contrarian title. I suspect there may be a bit of both in this situation. |

What the Online Marketing Blog Community Has to Say
 |
With regard to your examples. It seems that many businesses have what I would call "Cold War Nuclear Proliferation Strategies." What I mean by this is if the competition has X amount of Y, then we have to have more without regard to a comprehensive social media marketing plan. You must always ask Why? Why is one of my favorite questions, it gets to the heart of the matter quickly.
Without a doubt a coordinated social media marketing plan is the way to go.
Thanks for the insight. --John, from Social Media Consultants, Experts & Gurus – Oh My! |

I couldn't be happier that the days of keyword stuffing and content farming are behind us (for the most...). I see a power grab on the horizon, however, with respect to the 'A for B' democracy that Google, in particular, works tirelessly to refine. The biggest problem with this system is that new sites, for most niches, don't--short of divine intervention--stand a chance of competing with established sites within highly competitive niches. They will simply never catch up.
In short, the system is now such that once a site has 'won' it has won for ever.
Not very democratic........ --Aaron, from SEO Considerations in a Connected Consumer World |

Well said Lee. The problem sometimes in the SEO community working with clients (since 1999) is the wrong perceptions they have about it. Getting them to truly understand the foundations and how it works takes up loads of time and efforts. But that's the part of being a consultant I believe. Online marketing is no different from investing. You don't want to put all your money in one basket. Same with the web. Focus on SEO only and you take big risks and you miss out on other great potential media out there. In sync combination is what works for me as well. --Johan Hedin, from Response: Is SEO DOA As a Core Marketing Strategy? |

At SAS, we are using an analytical tool (of course it's SAS) on our website to understand the "journey" our website visitors are taking. Some of the early reports I'm seeing show us that they have regular interaction with our blogs and FB pages before and after they use Search.
As usual, your blog post is right on in terms of the interaction among Search, Social, and Content. Critical mix. Many large B2B companies manage these disciplines separately, and miss out on the synergy. --Deb Orton, from Opportunity for Better B2B Marketing with Social Media & SEO |
