This Fall 2025 edition of B2B Marketers on the Move is our final installment this year celebrating marketers who have taken on new roles at new B2B organizations or who have been promoted at their current company. As part of TopRank Marketing’s efforts to elevate the B2B marketing industry, we’re committed to putting a spotlight on talent and B2B Marketers on the Move is one way to do just that.
This year has been a mix of change, challenge and also opportunity for the B2B marketing labor market. Earlier in the year, there was a notable skills gap between what B2B companies need and the skills available because of advances in AI and increased pressure to perform. Mid-year we found B2B companies with increased demand for hiring senior B2B marketing positions but with increased expectations, the difficulty in filling roles continued.
Now that we’re in the 4th quarter of the year, the US labor market for marketing roles has slowed and according to a Q2 marketing jobs report from Taligence and a marketing hiring trends report from Robert Half, companies have become even more selective, focusing on senior and specialized talent, especially in growth marketing, product marketing, video content strategy, and analytics.
Freelance and contract hiring seems to be on the rise as more companies look for flexibility with tighter budgets. From a skills standpoint, expectations are changing pretty fast, especially with AI literacy, data-driven storytelling, and workflow/automation skills now becoming requirements rather than “nice to haves”. We’re seeing this play out first-hand in our own hiring and resourcing.
Looking towards 2026, Forrester reports that 83% of B2B marketing decision-makers expect an increase in investment over the next 12 months, which is a good indicator that marketing hiring should start to recover. Growth will continue to concentrate on roles that combine strategy, data, and creativity.
Given our focus on Best Answer Marketing, I may have a bias towards this, but marketing jobs are evolving toward roles that can combine human creativity and inspiration with data and technology into elevated, trusted content experiences that are easily found everywhere buyers are looking – all managed by a unified analytics platform.
